Driven by increasing volumes of network traffic, changing traffic patterns, and a growing need to deliver fast, low-latency connectivity to the very edges of the global, SES has invested in a groundbreaking, second-generation MEO satellite system— O3b mPOWER—which builds on the proven commercial success of our first-generation MEO constellation.
O3b mPOWER represents a step change in capabilities for satellitebased networking—a shift from the 12 mechanically steered beams per satellite in our first-generation MEO system to 5,000 electronically steered beams per satellite in the new system. While each first-generation satellite has an aggregate capacity of 20Gbps, each O3b mPOWER satellite has 10 times greater capacity, delivering a terabitlevel constellation that scales as more satellites are added.
